MAX NORTH SHORE DIARY - SERIES #2 - ENTRY #3

Post Pipe comp has seen the majority of tourists (inc. myself) flee home. Whilst few others are chasing late season glory, the rest are on their way to the next tour event in Brazil. Plastic New Jersey dude Mike Murphy reports a bunch of fun sized pipe/ backdoor days but nothing great. This will be my last North Shore diary entry and in turn, wraps up another season - out of the medias eye anyway -. In conclusion I'd say it was a freaking cool time considering the amount of bullshit days in Feb. For those sticking it out I wish the best of luck.

See you freaks on the Plastic People Hellfire tour. This will get crazy!

Cheers....Max.

MAX NORTH SHORE DIARY: SERIES #2 - ENTRY #2

Fuck O A T H cunts, today was dead set pumping! From about 10am through to the afternoon, Pipe was pulsing at around 8-10ft. Really peaky, wedgey Pipe too - perfect for the boog! Killer cool too because no one is here anymore, like at one stage I counted 10 people in the water. It's these kinda days that make that trip worthwhile... and then some.
On a damper note, the Pipeline Pro contest didn't wrap up in the best of conditions, but wave quality aside we came away with a winner. Previous world champion and first time Pipe winner Brazil's Paulo Barcellos! A legendary sized congrats goes out to the man. As for those of you who don't know, Paulo's form out at Pipe is second to none. The man has put in so much time at this break and its about time! On the outlook this week continues to pump and I will give you guys another update before I depart home this Friday. Shootz

Former World Champ Paulo Barcellos took home $3,000 and his first Pipeline trophy. Congrats brother!!!

MAX NORTH SHORE DIARY: SERIES #2 - ENTRY #1

More waves, more girls, more gnarly crazy good cooler times! Alright cunts, I know I've been slack on the updates but here you go.
Straight up February on the North Shore has been absolutely blazing! It's as if the whole season has been crammed inside this 2-3 week period and it's freaking sweet. The dick dragger boogie dudes have been killing it, ripping apart every hot spot this joint has on offer and its great to see. The IBA Pipeline Pro has been on this last couple days leaving Thursday, finals day tomorrow the last day of competition. Plastic pricks Andre Botha, Dhubb and Crowley are still flying the flag and things look promising - the swell is predicted to be reaching 6-8 ft. and with sunny skies complimented with the offshore trades it should be an insane day of surfing. I'll be informing you kids with a full report on the day including all the after dark glory that goes down at the post party tomorrow night. There's been a bunch of babes down on the beach so hopefully things will get wild... Psyched!!!

Max, early round pipe nugget.

CHARLIE HOLT & SAM STRACHAN JOIN PLASTIC PEOPLE GROM PILE

Plastic People is proud to announce the addition of the Grom Pile, the creme de la creme of today's hottest young amateurs. Enter 14-year old Charlie Holt from Port Macquarie and Cronulla's 13-year old micro-grom Sam Strachan. Plastic People Co-Owner Mike Murphy returned from a recent trip to Tahiti saying, "Thorto (Simon Thornton) is raving about this kid Charlie back home, we gotta hook him up". Words like that from two of the industry's most underground chargers were not to be taken lightly. "As if our team wasn't already stacked with the industry's choice talent and favorite personalities, we just had to make room for these two kids" quoted Plastic People Founder and Creative Director Chuck Guarino. The two will for sure be turning heads into the future. "Their natural talent is obvious, and besides being extremely stylish in and out of the water they both have great personality. Both Charlie and Sam epitomize Plastic People's image." Guarino added. Look for Charlie and Sam cruising with the rest of the pile at select store promos during the first-ever Plastic People Australia Tour in April.

Port Macquarie's future pride and joy, Charlie Holt.

Cronulla's next bodyboarding prodigy, Sam Strachan.

Boom!!! Grom Power!!! Charlie, textbook el rollo at Breakwall.

Sam, 13, and already rushing it at Shark Island.

Charlie looking reminiscent of a young Damian King.

Sam extending an invert over Surge at The Island.

Charlie gives himself and Sam two thumbs up.

CATCHING UP WITH ADAM "CRASHY" BENWELL

CG: Hey Crash, what the hell you been up to?

Crashy: Hey buddy. I’ve been good, just cruising at home lapping up some quality time with friends and family, spent my first Christmas at home in eight years, and I’m gorging on the fruits of Summer. Travelling hardly ever, I’ve developed a fear of flying now. Too many places are dropping out of the sky and crashing. Haha, nah I did a quick solo stint to Bali, London, and Eastern Europe a few months ago. Drove a scooter through Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro for a week. The best non-surf trip I’ve ever done. That place is where God would live. Dude we have to go there one day you would lose it!!!

CG: Are you still living at home on the Gold Coast or still out of your suit case?

Crashy: I’m still on the Goldy, but migrating down to Sin City (Sydney) in a few weeks for the year for something different.

Crashy doing what he does best. Air Reverse at Dbah.

CG: Who you been hanging with?

Crashy: Just hanging out with Hog (Sam Gray), Tommy, Liam and a bunch of other suspects you probably wouldn’t want to know. Hez and Bryce come up to get beaver and lose all there money at the casino occasionally. Oh and my wife. I’m married these days. Pretty much.

CG: What are your plans for this year?

Crashy: Just keep loving the home life. It’s funny when you’ve traveled so much and been nearly everywhere
spending $25,000 a year you finally get over it all and want to start investing that green on material possessions such as fine wine, fine China and fine linen. Haha. I just bought a BMW yesterday because I haven’t traveled for the last six months.

Crashy at one of our favorite dives in New York, The Johnson's.

CG: Can’t wait to chill with you man. Murph, Keith Loud, and I will be there in six weeks.

Crashy: Sounds sick, see you then Chucky.

Crashy sends his love.

DAVE HUBBARD WINS BIG IN PUERTO RICO

Dave Hubbard left the dismal waves and weather on the North Shore of Oahu and jetted over for the Puerto Rico contest at Margara where he smoked all competitors winning both Open Pro and Dropknee divisions, along with the Best Barrel award. Organizers of the event also awarded him with the MVP trophy. Dave heads back to Kauai with $4,400 in his pocket, not too shabby for a couple days work. Don't be surprised if he gives Ben, Amaury, his brother Jeff and the rest of the boys on the World Tour a run for the title this year. Congrats Dave!!!

MAX ARENT NORTH DIARY ENTRY #3

Hawaii's back!! YEEEEE HAAAAA!!! For the first time on this trip it really feels like I'm on the North Shore again! This past week has had a bunch of days, ranging from fun Off The Wall/Backdoor in the 4-6ft range right through to 15ft pumping Pipe! The Da Hui Backdoor Shootout got the best of it dominating the Sunset stretch with 3 days of big, clean competition. But of course, this didn't stop rad cunts like Toby, Stewart, Leif Emberg and Hubb still shredding those first and last hours of daylight outside the comp. In the end Jamie O'Brien took home the $50k win. The dude was jamming rodeo clowns, switch foot tube rides and a whole bunch of other cool shit leaving the competion for dead! Congrats. The next few days look wild with 30ft plus waves predicted. Probably too big for everywhere. This place is crazy!

Ben Player doesn't ride for Plastic People but we love him anyway. Two-time World Champ air reverse sha-bang!

Pipe showing it's pretty face

And the infamous Banzai Pipeline has finally popped it's cherry this season.

MAX ARENT NORTH SHORE DIARY

ENTRY #2

The last week on the North Shore has had its ups and downs. Ups with the banzai outta nowhere absolutely blazing boxing day morning and downs with the treatment this islands population brains took on after the boozing new years night. Nothing short of a total blast though in the ocean and on the town. Enclosed are a couple photos taken by Alex Ormerod of the rising swell and our keiki pad ablaze New Year's night! Alex has been on fire behind the lens this season capturing insane images of all your Plastic favourites. Scope out the future mags for some sure publishment...Waves are still small and crappy since Xmas but with mid-week forecasts looking up the season is sure to take on a consistent turn.
keep you kids posted.
Max

Time to get barreled...

Still quite a bit of sand at Pipeline, but how fun does this look?

MAX ARENT NORTH SHORE DIARY

ENTRY #1

I have been on this island for three weeks now and all I can report is utter rubbish. Bar a couple of freak days out at Log Cabins this season has just bluntly been, bullshit bad! Rumours are circling the North Shore that peak season has either been permanently pushed back a month, the classic island trade winds have swung permanent onshore, and/or even that the North Shore is bottom line broken... forever! But fingers crossed these on par Christmas boom swells will pull through and break the drought, as well as putting the peoples minds at ease. In other news the majority of hotrod stand-ups have fled home to make way for the big name boogers to arrive. In particular straight from the last tour event in Gran Canaria, our new 2x World Champion Mr. Ben Player has landed. A huge congrats goes out to the man as he not only taken home another worldie but double barreled it honing this years Riptide Peer Poll #1 position as well!! Quite the compliment seeing as combining these two feats together has only ever been done by the sports godfather himself, Mike Stewart!
Ill keep you people up to speed as it happens,
.. Maximus

Max keeping his cool on the North Shore.

DAVE HUBBARD SCORES NEW JERSEY WINTER SWELL

After spending the last week in New York roaming the streets and throwing snow balls at cars and innocent people, Dubb ventured down to New Jersey with Chuck Guarino to score a last minute frigid winter swell. The few die-hard groms that were out were super stoked on Dubb's presence. Photos: Keith Loud

How classic is Dubb's face here? Much to his surprise, he actually had a lot of fun suiting up in a 5 mil for this.

The cold water never restricted Dave from boosting. Staying loose for the upcoming Maui comp with an air reverse out of the end bowl.

Chuck driving through a dirty gutter. Photo: Andrew Dennis

A rare site. Dave Hubbard DK'ing in a 5 mil. Even more rare, he ditched his beloved Bluntcuts for a size larger pair of Churchills. Crazytown.

Chuck, Air Forward pop!

Ramps everywhere. Dubb landed this, connected with the wave behind it, and got pitted again. Where is the rest of the sequence? Loud only knows.

MURPH SIGNS WITH EMPIRE!!!

East Coaster Mike Murphy has just inked a deal with Empire Bodyboards. Murph stopped off in California on his way back from Hawaii and Tahiti to meet up with Empire owner Eddie Solomon. "The boards are working really well and I'm stoked to be part of Eddie's new company" noted the thrilled New Jersey native. He joins Plastic People riders, Leif Emberg and Anthony Savoji on the talented Empire squad. The Murph signature model is due out in Spring 2008!!!

TWO WILD CATS!!!

Australia's Leif Emberg was recently staying with Anthony Savoji in Newport Beach, California, Leif's first stop on his world tour. The boys were riding pretty dirty, partying, surfing the Wedge, taking pictures, destroying hotel rooms, in the land of plastic women. Leif and Savoji are now riding for Eddie Solomon's new company Empire Bodyboards with Savoji's board model out in time for XMAS!!! And Leif's not too long after that!!!

Dave Hubbard finishes Top 10 on 2007 IBA World Tour

Dave Hubbard has just returned from the Canary Islands with an = 9th finish boosting him to 10th overall in the ratings of the 2007 IBA Tour. (Note: Due to bad timing with the surfing events at Pipe, this was the first time in bodyboarding history that bodyboarders were not granted a permit in January, therefore, the Pipe event was pushed to February to kick off the 2008 IBA World Tour).

Dave will be crashing at the Plastic People studio here in New York for the next week before heading back home to Hawaii for another North Shore season. 2008 looks bright for the 25-year old freak from Hawaii with the IBA World Tour commencing at the infamous Pipeline.
